Art Workshops

Portrait Drawing with Stacey
Sunday,  August 8 – 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Participants will paint a self portrait from a black and white print made on-site.  Stacey Taylor will teach basic drawing skills to 20 participants.  The resulting portraits will be displayed as community art within Williamson County. Sign-up sheet located in the Cultural Arts area on Sunday prior to the workshop.  Ages: 6 – teens

Trees of Life
Saturday – August 7th – 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Thursday – August 12th – 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday – August 14th – 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Participants will create a tree of life painting with hand, thumb, or  foot prints.  The resulting art piece will be displayed as community art within Williamson County.  Ages:  birth – 8 years old

Century Farms recognizes a select group of families who generation after generation for more than 100 years, have retained continuous ownership of their land and farming heritage. This years guest speaker is Mr. Joe Gaines, Assistant Commissioner for the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program. Meet, hug and take a photo with Channel 4’s Snowbird, Channel 5’s NewsHound, 94 FM the Fish’s Finny the fish, a herd of cows from Chick-Fil-A, and Nashville Predators mascot GNASH . They will be making their appearence in the air conditioned arena.

Contest is open to the general public of all ages. The race starts and ends at the fairgrounds and is both challenging and scenic.

Find the mystery vendor each day and collect your free barnyard animal. Simply wander the fairgrounds until you see the “Mystery Vendor” sign and ask for your gift. Collect all 9 barnyard animals and bring them to the merchandise booth (in the air-conditioned arena) on August 14 to receive a free barn for your animals! Supplies limited.


General Tommy Franks Traveling Museum

Thursday, August 12 – Saturday, August 14

The traveling Road Show is one of two major Phase II projects of the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute (the other being Four Star Debate). The Road Show brings traveling exhibits to middle school students. Beginning September of 2008 the Road Show has traveled over 20,000 miles taking the show to over 80 schools and has guided more that 18,000 students through the exhibit. These schools have been across Oklahoma and Texas.

Exhibit content will include selected items from museum archives. Examples of the exhibits include: Bedouin jewelry, knives and swords from Yemen, rugs from Afghanistan, & military uniforms.

History and process of wine-making lecture

Come join us for a class/lecture on the history of wine-making and the process of wine-making in Tennessee given by Dr. Tony Johnston, partner/owner of Monteagle Winery and professor of Agri-business and Agri-Science at MTSU and columnist (expert) on Wine for the Daily News

Journal. Dr. Johnston is the ONLY person in Tennessee who holds a PHD in grape and wine production.

SaddleUp!

Thursday, August 12 – 7:00 p.m. (south covered warm-up arena in the Tractor Supply Company Livestock area)

In partnership with Tractor Supply Company, the Williamson County Fair is pleased to feature a special presentation by SaddleUp!

Saddle Up! provides a recreational therapeutic horseback riding program that makes a positive difference in the lives of Middle Tennessee children and youth, ages 4 to 18, with more than 40 types of documented disabilities.

Senior Day

Seniors will gather at the fair for a day of fun! There will be a luncheon at 11:00 a.m., followed by bingo at 1:00 p.m.. All seniors (55 and up) will be admitted free the entire day. Contact your local senior center for details.

UT Extension 100 year celebration

August 7 – 4:00 p.m.
At the picnic area inside the air conditioned arena

UT Extension is celebrating 100 years of service to Tennesseans. Current 4-H members and alumni, along with family and consumer educators, Master Gardeners, community clubs, Home Demonstration Clubs and other clubs related to the UT Extension program are invited to join the celebration at the Williamson County Fair Saturday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. at the picnic area at the east end of the mezzanine of the air conditioned arena. Past and present members of Extension clubs and programs in Tennessee and other states are also invited to join the celebration.
