Original Design (810): Thursday, Aug. 4     6:30 p.m.
Required Pick-up Date: Sunday, Aug. 14     11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. Competition is open to all residents of Williamson County and adjoining counties, or persons who are active members of a Williamson County club related to textiles (e.g. FCE, Garden Clubs, Community Clubs).  Original Design Section 810, Classes 1 & 2 are open only to high school and college students, including 2011 graduates.  The Open Class 3 is not limited to students but open to all residents.
  2. Only two articles per class are allowed and all articles must belong to the exhibitor.  Entries must have been completed in the last 24 months.  An entry will not be accepted if it has been previously entered in a Williamson County Fair.
  3. This Section is open to Professional and Non-Professional exhibitors.
  4. Pre entry is recommended but not required.
  5. No soiled articles will be accepted.
  6. Please bring garments on white plastic tubular hangers.
  7. JUDGING WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING (for Section 800):
    1. GENERAL APPEARANCE: Design; Color and Texture Combinations; Originality; Creativity; and Effort
    2. WORKMANSHIP: Cut on correct grain of fabric; Choice and neatness of seams, Hem; Collars and/or Neck Bindings; Buttonholes; Perfection of stitches; Cleanliness; Pressing
  8. Judges reserve the right to withhold ribbons if entries are insufficient or are not of award caliber. Judges decisions are final.
  9. PERSONALIZED LABELS SHOULD BE COVERED WITH MASKING TAPE.

Section 800: TEXTILES

ADULT GARMENTS
CLASS 1:  Men or women’s suits, coats, jackets
CLASS 2:  Dresses, pants, skirts, blouses/shirts, other garments, wearable accessories, other
CLASS 3:  Wedding dress, semi/formal attire

ADULT NON-GARMENT
CLASS 4:  Tablecloths, placemats, napkin sets
CLASS 5:  Drawn work, cutwork, and smocked items
CLASS 6:  Tote bags, purses
CLASS 7:  Pillows, wall hangings, otheR

CHILDREN’S WEAR
CLASS 8:  For sizes 6-14; Suggested items but not limited to this list include:  Fancy dress, smocked dress, tailored dress, sundress, slip, jumper, pinafore, coat or jacket (boys or girls).

TODDLER’S WEAR
CLASS 9:  For sizes 2-5; Suggested items but not limited to this list include:  Fancy dress, smocked dress, tailored dress, sundress, slip, jumper, pinafore, coat or jacket (boys or girls).

INFANT’S WEAR
CLASS 10:  For sizes Newborn-24 months; Suggested items but not limited to this list include:  Fancy Christening dress, smocked dress, day gown, boys garment and bonnet.
CLASS 11:  Sleepwear – all children’s sizes.
CLASS 12:  Costume – Adult and Children; Suggested items but not limited to Halloween, stage, other.

INFANT MISCELLANEOUS ITEM
CLASS 13:  Suggested items but note limited to this list include: pillow, pillowcase, baby quilt and bib.

Section 810: ORIGINAL DESIGN

Judging will be based on creativity and originality of garment. Garments must be modeled for judging.  The designer/seamstress may use a friend to model the garment in the designer’s absence.  Participants may enter one item in each of the five classes.  Judging for this section will be held Thursday, August 4th, at 6:30 p.m. on the main stage.  The designer must provide a written description of the garment for the narrator.  The information should include specific features, fabric used, intended purpose and any other information that can be used during the show.  The exhibitor may provide, if desired, a 5×7 photo (or larger) of someone modeling the garment (to be displayed with garment during the fair).

HIGH SCHOOL:
Class 1:  Wedding Dress
Class 2:  Retro Pattern
Class 3:  Semi-Formal/Cocktail
Class 4:  Prom
Class 5:  Accessory Item (purse, shawl, etc.)

COLLEGE:
Class 6:  Wedding Dress
Class 7:  Semi-Formal/Cocktail
Class 8:  Business/Street Wear
Class 9:  Accessory Item (purse, shawl, etc.)

OPEN
Class 10:  This class uses the fair theme of “A County Fair with a Western Flair”.  The outfit must reflect a western clothing influence and can be for either adults or children.  The competitors are not required to be enrolled in design classes.  The designer will present the outfit on a live model in the scheduled fashion show for original design.
